The Virginia Beach CVB is responsible for facilitating the creation and enhancement of convention, tourism, special events programs and resort-related improvements to maximize tax revenues.

Travel and tourism spurs growth, builds a strong tax base and creates jobs that cannot be outsourced. Increased traveler visits and greater traveler spending in local businesses result in faster job creation and higher tax revenues that far surpass the initial investment. As a department of the City government, the Virginia Beach CVB promotes the coastal City, generates a high return on its tourism advertising investment. The tax revenue generated by tourism spending then support the local economy and programs and contributes to the high quality of life our residents enjoy.

    Grow With Us

Tourism is one of the largest revenue generators for the City of Virginia Beach. Tourism spurs growth, builds a strong tax base and creates jobs that cannot be outsourced. Increased traveler visits and greater traveler spending in local businesses result in faster job creation and higher tax revenues that far surpass the initial investment. In this way, the Virginia Beach tourism industry provides a significant return on investment for our residents.

We must all work together to protect our tourism industry. To grow and strengthen our tourism industry, we need the support of our business community, our residents, our tourism partner associations, and local and state political leaders. Virginia Beach's competitors are investing heavily in product development to ensure their cities are staying attractive and luring leisure and business visitors to their shores. Many have introduced new attractions and new hotels, and our competitors' convention centers offer headquarters hotels which is often a "must-have" for meeting planners.

Increased visitor spending means increased impact for Virginia Beach's local economy. This helps to eliminate additional tax burdens on our local residents to provide essential services. Tourism also creates attractions that contribute to the high quality of life our residents deserve.

Tourism created over 12,900 jobs in 2015 and almost 14,000 jobs in 2016. It is an industry that we can all celebrate and protect.

    Invest With Us

Virginia Beach is a city on the rise. Our city leaders have identified a number of strategic growth sites in the city that lie in key tourism areas, such as the resort area, the 19th Street Corridor and the Marina District. In addition, the Virginia Beach Convention Center sees a headquarter hotel as a needed addition. Virginia Beach is the most populous city in Virginia with more than 445,000 residents, attracting nearly 7.1 million overnight visitors each year.

Virginia Beach is internationally recognized as one of the best places to live, work and do business. This strength comes not only from the city's strategic location, but also from its diverse mix of industry, attractions and people. As one of the largest revenue generators for Virginia Beach, the tourism industry provides a significant return on investment for our residents. Yet, the competition among tourism destinations is fiercer today than it has ever been - for leisure, meetings and conventions, and sports marketing. Product development is key for cities to stay attractive and attract leisure and business visitors to their shores.
